William Hull (Wisconsin)
William Hull (1815 – September 15, 1881) was an American lawyer and politician.
Born on a plantation, near New Orleans, Louisiana, Hull graduated from Norwich University in 1833. He served in the United States Army and was commissioned and fought in the Second Seminole War in 1837. He then studied law in Louisiana but had to leave because of his involvement in a duel. Hull then went to Potosi, Wisconsin Territory and practiced law. He again joined the United States Army at Fort Crawford. In 1838, Hull went on an important mission to Fort Snelling at the request of Lieutenant Jefferson Davis who was stationed at Fort Crawford. He then resigned from the United States Army. In 1852, Hull served as chief clerk the Wisconsin State Senate. He served in the Wisconsin State Assembly from 1856 to 1858 and was speaker during his last year. He was a Whig and later a Democrat. In 1858, he moved to La Crosse, Wisconsin where he practiced law.
